In technically oriented fields such as neurosurgery and neuro-interventional radiology, technical innovation and leadership are synonymous. For biomedical engineers, successful conceptualization and implementation of ideas requires a fundamental understanding of the practice of medicine. To engage these emerging trends, the Center for Innovation in Neuroscience and Technology (CINT) has created a unique educational experience for neurosurgical residents and engineering students. The fellowship is sponsored by the CINT, the Department of Neurological Surgery, and the Stryker Corporation – a medical device company headquartered in Kalamazoo, MI. The summer program involves faculty and residents from the Department of Neurological Surgery, and faculty and students from the School of Engineering, who together will design and create innovative medical device prototypes for clinical neurosurgical practice.
